First Communion Veil Styles & Fullness

Comb Veil:

No Gather  - Also known as First Communion Mantilla veil, sits flat on the head and does not have any gathers. It can be held in place with a comb, hair clips or by attaching it to a headdress.

Half gather  - A half gathered First Communion veil is more popular, the fabric is gathered onto the comb with the straight part falling down over your shoulders . A half gathered First Communion veil is often referred to as the ''Drop Shoulder'', as the sides of the veil fall onto the shoulders in folds.

Centre Gather - A centre gathered First Communion veil is similar to half gather, fabric is gathered onto a comb and placed at the back of the head. The fabric is gathered in the middle section onto the comb with the straight part falling down over the shoulders

Full Gather  - A full gathered First Communion veil gives the maximum amount of fullness, 'pouff'. the side folds are gathered right across the fabric up into the comb, so giving a much fuller veil around the head. The shorter the First Communion veil the fuller it will appear.

Caring for your First Communion Veil

Carefully remove outer packaging (avoid wearing any rings or bracelets, as this can snag the fabric) and allow the First Communion veil to hang for approximately two weeks prior to wearing.

This will allow any creasing to drop out naturally. If creasing appears stubborn, or time is limited, try hanging in a humid environment to speed up this process.

Never try to iron or steam your First Communion veil.

The delicate fabric is made from delicate fibres and will damage very easily with heat.

Never try to use any form of chemical on your First Communion veil, as this may shrivel the fabric.
